Soulful Woody Rock

Bruce Von Stiers

Woody Rock is a former member of Dru Hill. He has now reached out on his own and put together a solo album. This album is called Soul Music and is being released by Gospo Centric Records.

Soul Music has thirteen songs on it. There were various people who helped produce the album, including Warryn Campbell, Kenya Miller and Ruscola.

The first song is He’s My Homey. The members of Dru Hill do the backup honors in this song about Jesus being by your side always.

No Matter What is about God giving the things that you need, not necessarily the things you want. And that God is there for you, no matter what.

The Question Is begins with a nice harmonica intro and moves onto harmonizing with Woody and his backup singers. It deals with a series of questions about faith and God’s presence in our lives.

Everybody is one of those songs that have you tapping your feet about ten seconds into it. It is a call for people to make noise and praise the lord. Good To Be Alive is another song that makes you want to dance around. Testimony is a personal testimonial to show how God has loved us and gave us the best.

I Won’t Complain (Mommy Tribute) is a gospel ballad type of song thanking God for “being good to me.” Believer has a rap at the start of it, and then moves onto a jam about people needing to believe in Jesus. A Friend In Me is a song with a message about saying that when there is a need for understanding and a helping hand “I’ll be there, your load to share.”

Other songs on the album are New Thing, How Can I Desert You, Clap Your Hands and Yes Lord.

Soul Music is a great effort by an artist who shows that you can entertain and still have a solid faith message. I look forward to the next Woody Rock album.
