Kate's Wild Boys Adventure
Bruce Von Stiers
Do you like quirky comedies? I do, but I like them more if there is a specific point to them. Like say, there is an underlying theme of sadness or isolation that, in the end, moves on from that into a somewhat brighter existence.
One such comedy is the film Wild Boys. It takes elements of past decades slapstick comedy to bring forth a story of friendship, loss, and the possibility of love.
Kate is a young woman who is apparently afraid to leave her home. She and her dad live in a house in the middle of a mountainous forest. Basically, all that Kate does is play video games on her phone and do martial arts training on her laptop.
As he is leaving for a trip into town, Kate asks her dad to bring her back a peanut butter fudge shake. But dad never returns. This sets in motion a chain of events that propels Kate out of her shell. And out of the house.
The sheriff, Maggie Jones, visits Kate to notify her of her father's death. And then later brings Kate something. Her dad had made a CD of his will. Kate would lose everything unless she could find a hidden treasure. A map with the CD that showed where the first clue to the treasure was.
Of course, the first clue was to be found up in the mountains. So, Kate must leave the house. Gathering supplies at a local store gives Kate a little bit of insight into what her dad might have planned for her. And a visit to a local burger place for a shake has Kate running into Axel, who apparently has a crush on her. Axel is now working for ICE and is hot for finding illegal aliens. That obsession winds its way through the entire film.
On her way to the first clue in the mountains, Kate runs across Bear and her man, Yap. Bear gives her a hard time and Kate moves on. Bear and Yap play a larger role later in the film.
Then suddenly Kate runs into a couple of guys. These two are long haired, shaggy, wearing loincloths and carrying spears. They call themselves Wild Boys. Hence the title of the film. One of the guys calls himself Red and the other one Jondeere. The two agree to help Kate find the treasure, but only if she brings them snacks.
Thrown into the mix is a guy named Dan, who is a drunk, and apparently Kate's dad's best friend. He shows up at different points in the film, offering a bit of insight into Kate's treasure hunt journey.
As the film weaves its way through the trials of Kate discovering the treasure, there is a budding friendship between her and the Wild Boys. But could that develop into something more for Kate and Red? Axel's obsessive crush on Kate and his obsessi on with tracking down illegal aliens also play a major role by the end of the film. And Bear and Yap, and even Dan, find themselves right in the middle of this whole mess.
Kate Frampton Davis is Kate. She previously starred in the short film, John. Vincent Catalina is Red. He has been in several short films and the miniseries Call Me Alpha. Jordan Laemmlen is Jondeer. He has also been in several short films.

He has been the composer for such films as Last Man Down and White Sky.
Production companies involved with the film were Retrofit Films, Rebel Frog Pictures and Saganight. It is being distributed by Indie Rights.
The play time for the film is one hour twenty four minutes.
The characters in the film were well done and the film moved along at a pretty good pace. The scenery was beautiful, and the filming and editing were fluid.
Wild Boys is a film that two different types of people, Kate as an isolationist and Red and Jondeere as free spirits living in the wild, and melds them together in funny, heartfelt story. Will Kate find the treasure and be able to live her life once again in isolation? What will happen to the Wild Boys? And what about Axel's crush on Kate and his obsession with capturing illegal aliens? Those questions and more will be answered by the end of the film. It is indeed a nice comedic story of friendship and overcoming loss with just a possible spark of romance.
Wild Boys is already available to watch for free on the streaming service Tubi. It will be available on YouTube on December 2 nd
