Searching For Love With The Wrong People
Bruce Von Stiers
Jessie is a twenty-something woman who has trouble with relationships. She just can't seem to find the right guy. One that meets standards and makes her feel like she's in love.
That is the premise for a short romance film titled What is Love? The film has a run time of twenty-one and a half minutes.
The film shows Jessie breaking up with three different guys, each for a reason that, well, seems to them not too reasonable.
Taylor is Jessie's best friend, and roommate. Taylor is also gay. She tries to look out for Jessie and provides best friend advice on dating and finding the right person. But somehow Jessie seems to keep true love at arm's length.
A girl's night out at a gay bar leads to a chance encounter for Jessie. Which in turn, sparks something within her. And that something could possibly lead to a true love that was there all along.
Katie Lynn Stoddard played Jessie. With almost forty screen credits, she starred in the film Devoid, been in films such as Lush Life and co-wrote the screenplay for the horror film, Washerwoman.
Erika Davidson played Taylor. She appeared in an episode of Princess Rap Battle and the comedy film, Lent!
Kenneth T. Griggs was the director, producer and screenwriter for the film. His credits include writing and producing the short films, Footsteps and Its' Okay. He also played a minor role in this film as somebody that Jessie hooks up with.
The three guys that the film shows Jessie breaking up with were played by David Collins, Jon Darby and Iyan Evans.
The chance encounter that I mentioned earlier was played by Jean Mora. And other actors who appeared in the film were Debbie Griggs and Andrew Langsam, along with over a dozen background actors.
The film was put together by Kenneth T. Griggs production company, Treasure Sky Productions, along with Brian Cutler Actors Studio and Skulk Works.
Anyone who's had trouble making a commitment to a relationship should be able to relate to Jessie. Stoddard does a great job of projecting that lack of ability to commit. Davidson is also very good as the best friend who is just trying to help. And, although the film is listed as a romance, it has some terrific comedic moments.
What Is Love? is an Official Selection for the upcoming Santa Clarita International Film Festival.
