Michael's Walk Towards Romance

Bruce Von Stiers

In the film, Come Walk With Me, Ellen is set to marry Chase. She is at the church with her grandparents. They are waiting for the wedding planner to show up to go over some things.

In the meantime, there is a young man who is driving his car. This young man is Michael, who has known Ellen since they were little kids.

Michael shows up at the church. Ellen's grandmother, Margaret, tries to get him to leave. But he convinces Ellen, who he calls Ellie, to take a walk with him. Hence the title of the film.

Ellie doesn't know what is going on with Michael. That is, until he professes his love for her.

The rest of the film shows the two of them talking and walking. Michael tries to impress upon Ellie how much he loves her and always has. But Ellie resists this. After all, she's getting married to Chase in a month.

A romantic at heart, I couldn't help but root for Michael. I kept thinking that Ellie would resist Michael and go on with her wedding to Chase. In the real world, that would be the most likely scenario. So it tugged at my heart a bit that Michael would have to go back to Chicago, where he'd been living, broken-hearted and dejected.

Does the film have a storybook ending? Or will Michael indeed go back to Chicago having his heart and soul crushed? I won't ruin the ending for you.

Elizabeth Gibbs was Ellen/ Ellie. She starred in the drama, Madly, and appeared in the supernatural thriller, Love Potion.

Matt Mercurio was Michael. He had a recurring role on The Pitt and also appeared in an episode of S.W.A.T. and Magnum P.I.

Lainie Smith was Margaret, Ellie's grandmother. She co-starred in Love Potion and Why Are We Here?

Mike Ground was Ellie's grandfather. Michael Spinks also appeared as Ellie's grandfather.

Come Walk With Me was directed by James Carey. He has directed several films, including Love Potion, Madly and Divorce During Pandemic.

The film was produced by James Cary and Lainie Smith.

The cinematographer was Ahren Steis. He was also the cinematographer for Love Potion and Why Are We Here?

There is a great blues song, Little Girl by Tom Shaka, in the film that goes along with Michael driving.

Come Walk With Me is a wonderful short romance film. The acting was terrific and the story made you really hope that Michael will be able to win Ellie's heart.

Come Walk With Me is currently making the rounds at film festivals. It just became an nominee at the Peachtree International Film Festival. The film is also an official selection at the 2025 Independent Shorts Awards.
