An Artistic Documentary

Bruce Von Stiers

Ara Davidi Ghazaryan is an artist and jewelry designer. He has won many awards and accolades, including an entry in the Guinness Book of World Records for designing the world's smallest chess set.

There is a short documentary film that highlights some of Ghazaryan's work. And it provides an insight as to the meaning of some of the items he's designed and the path in life he took to get where he's at.

The title of the film is The Key To Heaven. It is just over six minutes long. Rosanno B. Maniscalchi directed the film.

The film opens showing a glimpse of some of the art that Ghazaryan has designed. There are also some cool precision artistry tools such as a mini coping saw and calipers and other measuring tools.

There is narration throughout the film. That narration was done by Duane March. We hear him voicing Ghazaryan's descriptions of his upbringing in Armenia and where he draws his inspiration from. There are some very unique art pieces that are shown throughout the film. There is a shot of the chess set that I mentioned earlier and the jeweled dome enclosure that contains it. That particular piece of artwork won a gold medal at the 2019 Florence Biennale.

As this is a short film, it doesn't show the full scope of Ghazaryan's work. But it does give a glimpse of how beautiful and unique the pieces that he designs are.

And as the film moves through showing art, there is a woman who looks at various pieces and helps give a visualization to the narration. The woman is Elonora Pieroni, who is an international model, actor and TV host. As some of the film takes place in Florence, so it is nice that Pieoni, who is Italian by birth, would be able to help showcase the art.

The Keys To Heaven is a very interesting film. I don't know much about intricate jewelry design or artistry. But I was intrigued by some of the pieces shown in the film, especially the chess set.

The film won the Best Fashion Short at the 2022 Film Miami Fest. It also won the Best Micro Short Film award at Malta's Your Way International Film Festival. And March won Best Narration at the 2022 La Jolla International Fashion Film Festival.

The Key To Heaven is a featured finalist at the 2023 French Riviera Film Festival. The festival is at Cannes, France on May 19 th and 20 th of 2023.

There is a page on the festival's web site that has a bit about each of the finalists. Here is the link to the page if you're interested in checking it out. https://frenchrivierafilmfestival.com/finalists-2023/
