Mist's Political Action Thriller
Bruce Von Stiers
What if there were an alliance that was formed to root out bad people and evil doers to make way for a new world order? And what if that alliance was corrupted by a politician who will stop at nothing to become President? That is the core premise of the action thriller The Heritor.
Mist is an assassin. She works for the alliance. Mist had an assignment to kill a Senator who was supposedly corrupt. But the job went wrong. A bomb that was meant for the Senator killed a young boy instead. Apparently, one of the tenants of the alliance is that no women or children were to be targeted. So, by killing the boy, Mist was in deep trouble with the alliance.
Because of the botched assassination, Mist is being pursued by her mentor, and former lover, Ghost. Along the way of trying to illude Ghost and find out why the assignment went wrong; Mist befriends a girl named Mia. It seems that Mia is an orphan of sorts.
There are several flashbacks during the course of the film. These help build the story as to what really happened on Mist's botched assignment and why.
The film has several fight scenes and a gun battle or two mixed in.
The film seems to take place in Mexico, although it isn't specific about where in Mexico.
As the film mainly centers on Mist, some of the other characters aren't well defined. There is the Senator, who seems to have political aspirations beyond his station in life. Then there is his wife, the Ambassador. Are her husband's aspirations tied to her own? There is Ghost, Mist's mentor, who she thinks she's killed off during the film, but he survives. And there's this shadowy guy called El Mudo, who apparently wants to get Mist onto the right path and correct the mistake that caused the botched assassination. Also, the girl Mia is definitely a bit different and some of her actions during the film were disjointed.
Farah Evers played Mist. She also wrote, directed and produced the film. She appeared in Hello Au Revoir and co-starred and helped produce the thriller, The Milano Effect. Jasmine Crane played Mia. This is her first noted film.
Luis Gerardo Cervantes played Ghost. He also did special effects makeup for the film. His previous work includes the short drama film, Paranoia.
John Seeley played the Senator and Tru Miller played his wife, the Ambassador. Ron Liguori played El Mudo.
Other actors in the film included Kisa Crane, Chris Todd Durbin, Albert Ocampo Atunez, Jorge Glumac and Luis Demetrio Moreno Leon.
David Ruelas was the cinematographer for the film. He was the cinematographer for the short horror film Sinister Legends: The Girl Of Rivera.
This is a modest independent film. As such, it doesn't have the polished look and feel of a top Hollywood film. But that's okay. There are a couple of pursuit scenes where the camera was a bit shaky and some of the dialog was not as crisp as I felt it could have been. But I really liked the fight scenes and the location shots, especially the marina where Mist kept her boat, were really nice.
