A Footprint In The Snow

Bruce Von Stiers

Sometimes a lot can be said in just a few sentences. A lot can be inferred by just a few actions also.

The latter is pretty much what comes about in the micro-short film The Coat. The film is only one minute in length.

The film finds a young woman walking in a forest through the snow. She has a heavy winter coat on.

All of a sudden she stops and screams. Then clutching the coat tight, she moves on. But with her footprints in the snow, there is another single footprint that moves along side hers.

Is this other footprint from a guiding source, helping the young woman, who seems to be grieving? Or is there something more ominous going on? The film kind of leaves you guessing. But then again not. The end references the lifeline of a person. Could this be the spirit who's guiding the young woman? Or, again, something not quite in her best interest?

The Coat stars Aly O'Dea as the young woman. She previously starred in the short films, The Date and Over 21's.

Donal O'Dea wrote, directed and produced the film. He's known for The Date, Over 21's, Skinny Dip and The Road To Hell.

The Coat is very short but very interesting. What was the intention of the film? To represent a spiritual presence looking out for the young woman? That spiritual presence haunting the young woman? Or was there some kind of message implied? You'll have to watch the film yourself and draw your own conclusions.

The Coat won the Minimalist Film award at the recent KinoKrome International Motion Picture & Screenplay Festival. And it won the Best One Minute Film award at this year's Couch Film Festival. It is also an official selection at the upcoming Santa Clarita International Film Festival.
