Vakili's Tannersville

Bruce Von Stiers

Lily Vakili fronts the alt folk group, Vakili Band. She started out as a solo artist and along the way accumulated a couple of people to complement her style to form a band.

A couple of years ago, I reviewed the band's album, Walking Sideways. Last year the band released an album titled Honey.

This year the band released an EP titled Tannersville. Basically, it is a solo album by Lily with the othe band members helping out. All of the songs are done acoustically.

Photograph is the first song. It is a soft and mellow song that deals with someone whose fame and caring could have lasted but somehow didn't.

Lily sings about someone who's long gone but did they gain everything they'd thought they would in the song Rocket. Even though it's a bit slow and endearing, a particular verse in the song might make you think of the raw emotion of say, Janis Joplin.

April Fools is almost a poem backed by music.

Last on the EP is the title track, Tannersville. It is a story of past times.

Tannersville is a not-too-bad EP. Lily Vakili is a natural story teller and the songs on the EP reflect that. The acoustic music is well done and the vocals also reflect the bluesy tone that Lili is known for.

If you like folk and or alt-folk music, then Tannersville just might be worth checking out.

You will find more about Lili and the rest of the Vakili Band and the new EP on their website at https://vakiliband.com/
