The Problem With Paula's Snooping

Bruce Von Stiers

Paula is the lead character in the short psychological thriller /horror film Peeping Paula.

Paula is a people watcher. Actually, Paula is a stalker. She sees someone and immediately becomes interested in their life. Too interested. Paula is not a very stable person and has a voice in her head directing her actions.

There is one woman, constantly drunk at home, who has tormented Paula. The voice in her head tells Paula she needs to do something about that woman. But sneaking a look at what the woman is doing doesn't end well for Paula.

Then there's something about the neighborhood butcher that just doesn't set right with the voice in Paula's head.

Each time the voice tells Paula to check out someone possibly dangerous, it actually becomes dangerous for her. In the end, things turn out to be far too dangerous for Paula.

Kim Trachenberg played Paula. She appeared in Bikini Bistro and A Violent Breakup. Illene Sullivan is the voice in her head that Paula keeps hearing. This voice sort of has you draw the conclusion that Paula might be a bit schizophrenic.

Thomas Augusto played the butcher that piqued the interest of Paula and the voice in her head. He starred in the comedy film Jimmy Traynor's Blacklist and the horror short film Third Job.

Michael Anthony Depreta was the radio announcer that Paula heard while driving her car. Jeff Ellis was a stranger who told Paula he'd call the cops on her.

Other actors for the film were Rochelle Reynard, Kevin Kelly, Misha Phaarone and Helaina Sleppin.

Erika L. Sherman played the drunk lady who had tormented Paula. She starred in the comedy short film Behind Her Makeup and the short thriller film Play, both of which I've reviewed. Erika also co-wrote the screenplay for this film.

Antoine Evans was the other writer of the screenplay. It was based on a story he'd written. He was also the director and cinematographer for the film. The film was produced by Evans' production company, AVizualz Films.

Peeping Paula has certain elements providing the foundation for a thriller film. You have Paula, who may be schizophrenic. She just can't stop getting into other people's business. There is at least one person missing from the community. As the film progresses, the question arises: Is Paula really in danger or is she the dangerous one to watch out for? Those plot devices makes this a decent thriller.
