What's In The Box?

Bruce Von Stiers

There is this cool little film that has a touch of Bonnie & Clyde. But not too much. The film is Pandora's Box.

The film is what some people call a Micro Short. That is, extremely short in duration. In fact, Pandora's Box is less than three minutes long. But a lot of action and adventure is packed into this brief film.

The film starts out with this pretty blonde in an older Cadillac convertible, dock side. She's apparently waiting for something, or someone. That someone is a guy who runs out of a warehouse with a small, old style suitcase. He is being chased by a gold chained, ponytailed Mafia type of dude.

Just who are these two desperados? It's not clear, but they stole something valuable. But what exactly? What is in that suitcase that has Mafia guys chasing after them? Will the audience find out or being left wondering?

Throw in a couple of FBI agents in the mix and a kidnapped boat captain and you have a caper with a lot of action in a short amount of time. But there is no clear answer to what's in the suitcase. Hence the title, Pandora's Box.

The film was directed by Teo Marinakis. A graduate of NYU's Tisch Film & Television school, Marinakis has won awards for his films at the Hip Hop Film Festival and the French Riviera Film Festival. The producer was Nash Petrovic and the Director of Photography was Alejandro Segovia.

Unfortunately, the only onscreen credit is Marinakis. So, I don't know the names of the actors in the film. But they do a good job with the roles. Only the woman and the FBI agents have speaking roles. And those are limited.

The cinematography was well done. And there was a bit of a surprise as far as the soundtrack. As the two outlaws speed away from the dock, the audience is treated to The Cult song Fire Woman.

Pandora's Box is a fun, short caper film. It leaves you really wanting to know what's in the suitcase. Or maybe you don't want to know. But, as I like to give credit where I can, I wish that there had been a listing somewhere in the film for the cast and crew.

I don't know what the distribution for the film is at this point. But it is a featured finalist in this year's French Riviera Film Festival That festival is being held in Cannes, France on May 19th and 20th of 2023. The festival has a page on their web site where you can learn a bit about each of the finalists and the categories that they are represented in.
