Andrew's Coffee Run

Bruce Von Stiers

What do you do when you have a crush on the boss's secretary? And that she doesn't know that you have a crush on her? For Andrew, he keeps small talk with Carla to a minimum, and pines away for her from afar. That is, until a situation occurs where Andrew can come to Carla's rescue. That is the basic plot for a comedy short film, Over Coffee.

Andrew and David are co-workers. As I mentioned, Andrew has a crush on Carla. And David is just a horn dog, who spends a lot of his work day sexting with various women.

Carla is a harried secretary to Mr. Rice, the big boss. Andrew brings a document up to Carla, with David lagging behind him. A phone call from Mr. Rice, announcing a sooner than expected arrival to the office throws Carla's already hectic day into a tailspin.

Andrew's offer to go pick up Mr. Rice's special coffee order for Carla is met with relief, and a bit of trepidation. Andrew does appear to be a knight in shining armor.

And things work out well. Until they don't. Limited funds, someone taking the wrong coffee order and a mad dash down the street are all elements of how things went wrong for Andrew.

Erik Potempa played Andrew. He has appeared in FBI: Most Wanted, The Equalizer and The Gilded Age. Michael Oberholtzer played David. He has appeared in shows such as Blue Bloods, Bull and The Good Fight. Jocelyn DeBoer played Carla. She starred in Greener Grass and Lousy Carter.

Mr. Rice was played by Timothy J. Cox. I've reviewed several of his films, including After, Good Luck To Me and Sundays With Dad. Mallory Portnoy played Laura, the woman taking the wrong coffee order. She's appeared in The Good Fight and American Horror Story.

Kathleen Hefferon played a barista at the coffee shop who Andrew interacts with. Jack Lundy, Franco Foti, Lauren Foti, Michelle Martinez and Mike Meehan also appear in the film.

The film was written and directed by Sean Meehan. A few of the films he's directed are Camera Test Subject, Total Performance and 18 Grand: A Personal Space Odessey.

Over Coffee is a fun comedy film that ends having a touch of a romance. The characters were well done, with David being kind of sleazy, Andrew in puppy love with Carla and her seemingly being all together except for this one time. And that the boorish Mr. Rice might not be all that.
