Lenny's Lucky Ticket

Bruce Von Stiers

I am one of millions who play the lottery. I play Mega millions and Powerball. Realistically, I know my chances of winning are pretty much nonexistent. However, I have a lot of different ideas of how I'd spend the lottery winnings should I ever win.

A guy who also has a lot of ideas on how to spend lottery winnings is Lenny. He is the main character in a short film, Lucky Lenny.

Lenny finds a Powerball lottery ticket in a parking lot. He compares the numbers on the ticket to the Powerball winning numbers. And wow! Lenny holds the winning ticket in his hot little hands.

The film follows Lenny as he is disgusted with his job and co-workers at a pizza joint and quits. Then he kicks out his roommate/ lover. The guy doesn't take it too well. And then Lenny looks at buying a McMansion and a pink Ford Explorer.

J. Jesse Harley is Lenny. In previous film roles, he's played a creepy bald man and a young Winston Churchill along with cop and a gas station attendant.

Winston Salk is Winston, Lenny's boss at the pizza joint. He has co-starred in short films such as Animal Behavior and appeared in the feature film A little White Lie. Devin Beckwith is Devin, Lenny's co-worker. He appeared in the short musical comedy film Gleeclipse.

Aidan Karstadt is Aidan, Lenny's roommate. He was the screenwriter for the upcoming horror film, Cursed, and has written and produced several short films. Sally Mullins is someone that Lenny plays cards with who makes him understand how to claim a winning lottery ticket. She appeared in a couple of Axegrinder films along with several adult films.

Other actors in the film include Rosie Marciel and Sonia Vorati. Kaitlyn Campbell does the voice of Banana, Lenny's daughter. She is mostly known for being a visual effects coordinator for Fast X and as an assistant on the film The Old Way.

The film was produced and directed by Jack Campise. He directed the short films Planet Cozmo and American Dream. Caleb Garrett was the cinematographer. Rose Shot, The Winner and American Dream are a few of the other films he's been the cinematographer for.

Other people working behind the camera included Paolo Woldsdorf as the art director and Shania Huffman as the film's sound designer.

Lucky Lenny is somewhat of a comedy yet has aspects of a drama. Finding a winning lottery ticket seems like a dream come true. Maybe it's too good to be true? Lenny never even considers that this turn of fortune might not be what it seems. The end of the film is sad but inevitable.

The film was awarded the Vimeo Staff Pick award about four months ago.

Lucky Lenny is an official selection of the upcoming Santa Clarita International Film Festival.
