Bruce Von Stiers
I had seen Greg Long’s CD’s on the shelves at a couple of the local Christian retailers that I frequent. But I have never really listened to any of his music. Greg has released an album titled Now. It was released by Word Records. After listening to Now, I wondered why I had waited so long to hear Greg’s music and message.
Now has ten songs on it and lasts over forty two minutes. It was produced by Chris Rodriquez and Don Koch. Greg’s wife Janna, of the group Avalon, is a guest performer on the album.
The first song is Sufficiency of Grace. It is a fast paced song that lets us know that God has shown him the better side of life. The song shows that even if things aren’t too good “if there’s a purpose, you’ll reveal it.”
I Won’t Take You For Granted praises God for the plentiful things in our lives. The song says “I want to be sure that I don’t forget” all of things that God has done for us.
The next song slows things down with a ballad, In The Waiting. It is about waiting for the time that God takes a person’s pain and agony away.
Loud and Clear has a slight techno background in the beginning. Then it goes into a strong backbeat. The song is about hearing the voice of God coming through loud and clear in moments of our moments of personal disasters and chaos.
We Dream of A Kingdom has an almost medieval tone to it with a guitar backdrop to begin with. It moves into a majestic type of music as Greg sings about dreaming of the kingdom of God.
Face of Love is about seeing the love of God is a stranger’s face and other things that remind us of him. The Sacrifice reminds us of the ultimate sacrifice that Jesus made for us.
Help Somebody Cry tells you about being a friend to someone in need and “be there for the tears.” Holy deals with weakness of man and how God shows his grace on us anyway.
My favorite song on the album is The Gospel. It is a funky song that reminds us that Jesus died for our sins and we are reborn because of his ultimate gift.
Now is a fantastic album from a top notch Christian artist. Greg Long’s songs will make you think, praise the lord and move your feet, maybe all at the same time.
