Haunting Halloween Experiences

Bruce Von Stiers

Do you like scary things? Can't wait for the next scary film to come out or maybe you have a streaming list for scary or horror films? How about around Halloween time? Do you like to go by people's houses to see what kind of gruesome or horrific Halloween displays they have? Or maybe you get a thrill, and a chill, by visiting a haunted house or some other kind of scary Halloween venue or event?

If any of those questions fit you or at least piqued your interest, there is a documentary you should watch. The film is titled Halloween Obsessed: Haunted Attractions .

Lisa Morton is interviewed throughout the documentary. She is somewhat of an expert on Halloween and its events. She has written several books on subjects related to Halloween, including Trick of Treat: A History of Halloween. Lisa offers tidbits about Halloween's past. Neighborhood Halloween parties in the 1930's and some of the costly shenanigans of teenage boys are just a couple of historic tidbits that Lisa shares in her interview.

In addition to the Halloween event history that Lisa shares, the film's narrator offers up information about current and past Halloween events.

Brothers Gene and Jim Schoff run the Field of Screams Halloween event venue. They have taken their family's Pennsylvania farm and turned it into an ultimate terror Halloween excursion. They have all kinds of gory and gruesome things that can scare the daylight out of you. At Field of Screams there are even things like a Zombie Fun Run, which is a 5k run. You run a sort of an obstacle course and have three flags. At each Zombie area, a Zombie will try to take one of your flags. But you don't want them to get all of your flags. That wouldn't be a good thing.

Also showcased in the film is Wraith House. It is also a family run venue. Throughout the film, there are interviews with various people involved in Wraith House. You get a tour of the beginnings of the construction of the next Wraith House experience.

And Teresa Griffin, who has her own Halloween experience venue is interviewed as well. In one sequence, she talks about how they didn't have a budget for that year's venue but spent almost ten thousand dollars putting things together.

Because there was a concern during the pandemic that the haunted house industry would die out, the venues came up with an idea to have drive through Halloween experiences. That is just one little bit of information that is shared about Halloween experiences and venues in the film.

The film is narrated by Antonio D. Charity. He has over one hundred screen credits including appearances on Bosch and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. He also voiced a character in a Wolfenstein video game.

The production company for the film was Runaway Productions along with Refined Rebel. The film was produced by Linda Palmer, Mark Cardone, Krisda Mauga and Barbara Donly-Bombar. Linda Palmer also directed the film.

Halloween Obsessed: Haunted Attractions is a cool look at a few Halloween experience venues with a little bit of the history behind such events.

Halloween Obsessed: Haunted Attractions is available to watch for free on YouTube. You can find the film here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lc7uD5YORU4&t=43s
