Alaska's Grace

Bruce Von Stiers

Alaska Rose is a young woman who is in just little spot of trouble. She's accused of having a fake ID, underage drinking and violating an open container law. In order not to go to jail for 90 days, Alaska agrees to 100 hours of community service.

That is the foundation for the heartfelt drama film, Finding Grace. The film takes a family that is already in crisis and puts further obstacles in their way.

Alaska's mom is no longer around, and her dad, Conner, has a floundering tour boat business. While he needs her help with the tours, she must do those pesky community service hours.

Those community service hours will be spent helping at an assisted living care facility. The facility's director, Amanda, puts Alaska with one of the residents, Mrs. Foster. That doesn't work out too well.

Along with the struggles that Conner is having with Alaska, he is also having a crisis of faith. He is trying to figure out where God is in his family's lives, because of everything that has and is happening. A church friend and the church's bishop could possibly give some guidance.

As the film moves along, there is a situation with a boy and Alaska begins a relationship with Mrs. Foster. Those two things, while separate, meld together near the end of the film.

Paris Warner plays Alaska. She co-starred in the recent films Once I Was Engaged and Trim Season. Jason Wade is Alaska's father, Conner. He appeared in Carthage and Out of Liberty. Kisha Sharon Oglesby is Mrs. Foster. She appeared in the film Totem and starred in On The Road. She is also an exceptional vocalist, which is highlighted in a scene in this film.

There is a trio of named actors who provide supporting roles in the film. The judge that ordered Alaska's community service is played by Erin Gray. Although she's appeared in over 90 films and television programs, I most remember her as Commander Wilma Deering on Buck Rogers In the 25 th Century.

David Keith plays the church bishop. First coming into prominence in Officer and A Gentleman, he has had several television appearances, including NCIS and Hawaii Five-0 and films such as The Scout and Walden.

Bo Svenson is Mrs. Foster's doctor. With roles in Kill Bill and starring in the Walking Tall film and television franchise, he has well over a 100 screen credits. He is also a screenwriter and producer.

Bethany Davenport is Amanda, the care center's administrator. She has starred in short films such as My Broken Mirror and appeared in an episode of Dynasty. Lacy Hartselle is Alaska's best friend Amy, who may not be that great of a friend.

Other actors who appeared in the film include Phyllis Spielman, Braden Balazik, Gage Maynard, Daphne Lewis, David Raizor, DeeJay Sturdivant, Steve Norris, Stacie Fast and Brad Napp.

The church friend of Conner's that I mentioned earlier is played by Warren Fast. He also wrote and directed the film.

Stacie Fast produced the film along with Phyllis Spielman. The production company for the film was Mythic Pictures.

Lucas Bessey was the choreographer. The editor was Christopher Roth. And the music was done by James Schafer.

There is a great song in the film, Irreplaceable. It written by Madilyn Paige and Stephen Nelson and performed by Madison Paige.

Finding Grace is one of those films where you think you know what's going on, but things are revealed that change the story. Alaska is a defiant young woman but what is the cause of it? Her mother not being there, her dad and his failing business or something else? As she draws closer to Mrs. Foster, Alaska just might find the grace that the film's title suggests.

Finding Grace is a terrific faith-based film. It is a drama that moves from the point of a family falling apart to them finding love and acceptance, and yes, finding grace.

As of this writing, Finding Grace is available streaming everywhere including Pureflix, Amazon Prime, VUDU, Apple TV, etc. Also available on DVD through Walmart and other outlets.
