Excel The Second Time Around

Bruce Von Stiers

There is an incredibly silly series about a secret organization trying for world domination. This anime series is called Excel Saga. The first volume of episodes from the series has been released by ADV Films. Now they have put out a second volume of this funny series on DVD. The title of this volume is Excel Saga: Missions Improbable.

For those of you who don’t know about this series, it is about a super secret organization called Across. The group is under the leadership of a longhair guy named Lord Ilpalazzo. His people are a teenaged hyper chick named Excel and her sidekick . This is another girl named Hyatt, who wants to puke about every other frame of the film.

What Across wants to do is rule the world. They will start with the city of F, somewhere in Japan. But they just can’t seem to get it right. Excel and Hyatt run into all kind of screwy messes on their way to world conquest.

There are four episodes on this DVD disc. It also contains some extras. These extras include production sketches, vid-notes and a Japanese CD single. The vid-notes are things that pop up on the screen that deal with cultural references.

The first episode on this disc has a guy named Watanabe and a couple of other guys trying to save The City of F. They meet up with Masaki, a hot agent who could help them out. Maybe. On the other side of the coin Excel and Hyatt are trying to find ways to get their task of world domination done.

From then on, the episodes go on a rollercoaster ride of hilarity. Excel and company try to kill the opposition down in the sewers. Then there is an episode surrounding a swimming pool with a lot of nubile young women. The last episode explores the evils of bowling.
The thing about this show is that it is full of parodies. There are parodies of classic anime shows like Mobile Suite Gundam. They also parody Japanese horror films and even classic movies like Titanic and The Karate Kid.

Excel Saga: Missions Improbable is a hilarious continuation of a popular Japanese series. It has great anime style and the dubbing was well done.

This volume can be found at your favorite DVD retailer. Check out other titles at the ADV Films web site. Their web site is www.advfilms.com.
