Brotherly Tension

Bruce Von Stiers

Brian has a small apartment in the city. He gets a visit from his brother Jeremy. It seems that Jeremy is an actor and has a role in a show that's being filmed in the city. Jeremy needs a place to stay, so he's going to bunk with Brian until he gets settled.

That's the foundation of the plot to a short mystery thriller titled Enter The Room.

Right away there is tension between the two brothers. Brian wants Jeremy to pay him to stay there. Brian reluctantly agrees. But apparently, everything that Jeremy does inside the apartment irritates Brian. From leaving lights on to eating Brian's food to sitting on his bed with supposed germ-infested clothing, Jeremy can't do anything right in Brian's eyes.

As this tension escalates, the film presents some muted red lighting for some scenes. These lighting elements help provide added psychological drama to the film.

Besides being OCD and perhaps ADHD, I couldn't figure out what the deal was with Brian. He was really being a jerk to Jeremy. But the end of the film reveals a tangible explanation of the adverse dynamic between the two brothers.

Rich Holton was Jeremy. He co-starred In Happily Never After and appeared in an episode of Chicago P.D.

Peter Mastne was Brian. He had a recurring role on Homicide Hunter and has played a law enforcement role in several other television and film productions.

Lance Elliot Adams was the cinematographer. He was the cinematographer for another film I recently reviewed, Bay For Blood.

Harry Waldman wrote, directed and produced the film. He produced and directed Bay For Blood. He also wrote and directed the short comedy crime film, In The Backseat.

Enter The Room was a very unusual mystery thriller. At first, I wasn't sure what the hook was for the film. As the film was listed as a mystery thriller, was there going to be a twist along the way? And, if so, would I be able to figure it out before it was revealed? Well, there was a twist and I kind of had it figured out, but not completely. That made it better for me. I like to figure things out in mysteries, but I don't want it to be made easy for me.

The film was a nominee at the Austin Under The Stars Film Festival. It was also an Official Selection at the Allentown Film Festival, ReadingFilmFest and the Nickel Independent Film Festival. The screenplay was also a nominee in the Narrative Short category at the 2024 LA Under The Stars film festival.

At this time there has been no official release date for Enter The Room. The director, Hary Waldman, indicated that once the film has finished its festival run, a streaming or theatrical release date will be announced.
