Eggnog

Bruce Von Stiers

The loss of a loved one is never easy. Although there may be similarities, no one grieves exactly the same. Some people are introspective, while others rage at the world. Some celebrate the life of their loved one and some close themselves completely off from the world as they grieve. And holidays where family members gather can be rather stressful without the person who died being there.

The short film, Eggnog, deals with someone who has lost a family member. A son to be exact. Eddie just wants to be by himself on Christmas. His sense of loss seems to be too great to celebrate the holiday. But then Penny shows up at his door.

Penny wants to do something that would be a remembrance of Eddie's son, who we learn had been her boyfriend. Penny wants to make some eggnog, which apparently was somewhat of a tradition for the boyfriend to have made. But things don't go as planned for the eggnog.

You can see that both Eddie and Penny are suffering. But as Eddie is trying to be an introvert and hide his feelings, Penny seems to want to be positive and outgoing.

Wayne Jay was Eddie. He starred in the short horror/comedy film Crib Masters and a film I reviewed not long ago, Reminisce. Jay was also the Executive Producer for this film.

Ashna Sharan was Penny. She also wrote the screenplay and was the film's producer. I've reviewed two of her previous films, Reminisce and Shame.

The director was Heather Hillstrom. She's directed comedies such as None In The Oven and thrillers such as Torch.

Natalie Jones was the director of photography. Other films she's worked on include the short drama, Backbone, and the fantasy / mystery short film Bajo La Tierra.

Nathan Bock was the Associate Producer. Bock starred in the limited series Scottsdale and the short thriller Chapter Two of Phantom Lady. He was also the associate producer, and co-starred in, Give Me A Hug: Hatchetman 2.

Henrik Astrom composed the music for the film. He has composed music for over thirty film and television productions.

Are You Ready For Christmas was a song used for the film. It was written by Shakeh Herbekian and was performed by The Diversions, featuring Lia Booth.

Eggnog is a poignant story. It shows that even though a person is grieving, they can still have moments of joy and remembrance. That their loved one may be gone, but never forgotten. And that, with one special gesture, they can share memories and lessen the grief a little.

Eggnog is getting ready to be viewed on the film festival circuit. It will have a premiere in Hollywood on May 16th as part of the Believe Psychology Film Festival. This short film is also a proof of concept.
