Darcine's Bad Day

Bruce Von Stiers

Darcine is like many people in post pandemic America. She is trying to find her way into a job that has good pay and benefits. She also wants to start up a new business that will provide meals to people at a super low cost.

But Darcine's day isn't going quite as well as she'd hoped. This is the plot of Darcine's Day, a short drama film.

As the viewer watches Darcine move throughout the day, she encounters obstacle after obstacle. From being put off by a possible funding source for her business, to not having enough credit history to secure a new apartment, to being overqualified for a teaching assistant job, Darcine is not having a good day. And then she has dinner with a very smart man who asks for her to be his girlfriend.

Kyla Diane Kennedy stars as Darcine. She appeared in Babylon and has starred in several short films. Brent Huff is the man Darcine has dinner with. Besides being in numerous films and a recurring role on Shameless, lately he's been seen as Smitty on The Rookie.

Other actors appearing in the films are Joe Hackett, Vicki Browder-Johnson, Elizabeth Lamboy-Wilson, Karla Paola Cortez, Ali Wais, Sophia Doering-Powell and Natalie Chattergoon.

Vidal Cohen is the producer. Although he's produced several short films, he's known for his work as a key grip, specifically on The Rookie.

The director of photography is Mark Doering-Powell. He's noted for being the director of photography on a bunch of television shows, including Grown-ish.

Aaron Goffman is the director and screenwriter for the film. He is also an alum of Grown-ish, being the property master for over a hundred episodes of the show.

There is also a great song in the film from Beth De Bacci called New Place, New Moment.

Darcine's Day is a terrific film that depicts one person's struggle to get ahead. In fact, just to be able to survive in post pandemic times. The ending is sad, but the entire film leads the viewer to this exact place and time for Darcine.

Darcine's Day was shown at the LA Shorts International Film Festival and is expected to be shown at several others, including the San Antonio Film Festival and the Madrid Indie Film Festival in Madrid, Spain. It has also been submitted for possible inclusion in this year's upcoming Santa Clarita International Film Festival.
