Never A Clean Break

Bruce Von Stiers

Audrey and Donovan are a young married couple. But their marriage seems to be ending. This is the foundation for a short drama film titled Clean.

They have been trying to decide about a clean break. To possibly not have a messy divorce. It seems they both have other people in their lives.

Even though they both seem to be calm, there is an underlying tension, a rawness that is just below the surface.

An incident happens while they are talking in the kitchen. That seems to change the mood and possibly the immediate outcome of their lives.

Ian S. Peterson is Donovan. He's been in a whole bunch of short films and a few music videos.

Kaitlin Sanders is Audrey. She starred in Jailed Bird and co-starred in True Luna.

Clean was written, directed, and produced by Ryan Kenton.

Joe Lim was the cinematographer. His previous credits include being a grip and first assistant camera operator.

Rarely does a marriage end cleanly. There is almost always something messy that has wormed its way into the mix. To not feel extraordinary emotion just doesn't happen as a rule. And, as Donovan tells Audrey, he'd prefer a messy break, because “at least it's real.”

Clean is an excellent drama. Anyone who has even been on the brink of dissolving their marriage will probably understand what Audrey and Donovan are feeling. The actors did a great job of portraying the calm and the subtleties of the heartbreak behind the calm.

At this writing, Clean has been submitted to the Santa Clarita International Film Festival for possible inclusion for this year's upcoming festival.
