Kaisel's Homecoming Adventure

Bruce Von Stiers

Kaisel is an older teen who lives on the outskirts of a village, Fernwallow. The village is in the Fallend kingdom on the continent of Pandrea. Kaisel is the ward of a professor, Edmund. He's lived with Edmund since he was five years old. Although he doesn't shy completely away from the public, Kaisel has to be careful. Because he is not from the area. In fact, he comes from Vanris, a northern kingdom of Pandrea. Vanris is at war with a group of southern kingdoms called the Pandrean Alliance.

This is what forms the beginning of a great coming of age fantasy adventure novel. The title of the novel is Child of Vanris. It is subtitled, The Wardon's Son Book I. It was written by Nikki McCormack. The novel was published by Elysium Books.

The Vanrians have pointed ears. This is why someone had cut Kaisel's ears at some point before he came to live with Edmund to help him blend in.

A fateful encounter with a band of mercenaries leads Kaisel to run away from Fernwallow. And the life he had known with Edmund. But when the mercenaries catch up with him, Kaisel begins to doubt everything he's been taught by Edmund and been told about his past.

A band of Vanrian soldiers rescue Kaisel from the mercenaries and he learns about who he truly is. Kaisel is the son of a military leader of Vanris, one who is feared amongst Vanrian enemies. One of the rescuers claims to be Kaisel's spirit brother. Kaisel reluctantly goes with the Vanrian to his supposed homeland.

Along the way there is an encounter with people from Fernwallow, who were chasing after the group, trying to retrieve Kaisel. Those people include the girl that Kaisel left behind, their budding romance having never got off the ground yet.

What I just described was only the first part of the novel. From there, the story further unfolds as Kaisel learns that he has telepathic abilities, his father is domineering and overbearing, and he truly bonds with his sprit brother. There are people not happy with Kaisel, thinking he's an agent of the Pandrean Alliance. There is a potential new romance just around the corner for Kaisel and there are further betrayals from the people he once called his family and friends.

One thing that I really liked about the novel was the descriptions of the castle that Kaisel ends up being at. The one where his father is headquartered. There are also animals that are both unusual and dangerous. There are also interesting tattoos that adorn the bodies of the Vanrian soldiers and royalty.

Child Of Vanris is an intriguing fantasy adventure novel. It has supernatural elements with the various telepathic talents that certain Varnians have. It has action with fighting and battles between the Vanrian soldiers and their enemies. It has bonding and engaging friendships. It has the loss of a romance that was never meant to be and the potential for great love yet to come. In conclusion, the novel has all of the elements that make a great fantasy adventure.

Child of Vanris is the first book in The Wardon's Son series. It is available at amazon.com and other book retailers.
