Testing A Camera, Or Not

Bruce Von Stiers

A man, an actor, has been hired for a specific task. He is to meet a man, who will photograph him for a test of a camera. This is the plot of the micro-short drama film, Camera Test Subject.

The actor is seen standing on a street, where he is supposed to meet the man with the camera. Then the actor moves about, eyeing things outside of stores and sitting on a doorstep. But only the actor is shown, never the man with the camera. And, as the actor moves from place to place, the audience hears his thoughts about the event, the man with the camera and himself.

The actor was played by Timothy J. Cox. I've reviewed several of his films, including After, Creatures of Habit and Good Luck To Me.

The director and screenwriter for the film was Sean Meehan. His previous films include Drinking For Two and The Couple Who Met On 9/11.

This is an interesting film. The actor seems to be a bit out of sorts about this assignment. He wonders what the ultimate goal of the man with the camera is. The actor is also a bit unsettled. It kind of made me wonder if there was actually a man with a camera or this was possibly something that the actor only had in his mind, some sort of psychosis.

Camera Test Subject won the Best Narrated Short at the 2020 Indie Film Festival.
