Annie J's Been Loving You

Bruce Von Stiers

Annie J is a Seattle based singer / songwriter. Her music has been touted as retro soul with a modern pop tone. In college she studied theater. Annie has also been trained in classical music. She has worked with artists such as Seattle Rock Orchestra, The Dip and The True Loves.

This year finds Annie J with a seven song EP. The EP is titled Been Loving You.

Annie has stated that the songs here are somewhat autobiographical, having taken her from childhood through adulthood and becoming a parent.

The songs on the EP were written by her and husband, Nick Foster, himself a singer / songwriter.

Your Power is a little pop and a bit of R & B. It kind of reminded me a bit of the music styling of some of the softer songs of Melanie C of Spice Girls fame.

Makin Bacon could be a light dance track as it has a head bopping, toe tapping beat.

Interlude is mostly an instrumental with background noise in the form of a little kid talking. It is pretty cool with flute music in the forefront.

Around The Block is a slow and easy R & B piece.

Can't Solve It is a bit moody with some cool music.

Gotta Give It Up is a pop tune with a disco flair.

Blue Angel is a short song that goes back to the soulful sound that Annie J is becoming noted for. It is mellow yet a bit sad.

For the most part, the songs on Been Loving You are okay. One song that does stand out is Gotta Give It Up. I really like the disco styling in the song.

Been Loving You is being released on October 18 th .
