Zoe's Alien Dilemma

Bruce Von Stiers

For generations, even centuries, people have been curious about alien life. From spirits in the sky to little green men in silver colored flying saucers, there have been theories and legends about aliens.

One of the craziest notions regarding aliens is the so-called alien abductions. This is a phenomenon where people think that they have been abducted by aliens from space. There are many schools of thought regarding this phenomenon. Mostly it is seen as some kind of psychosis. And sometimes the people who believe they've been abducted are treated by mental health professionals.

This brings me to why I just wrote that stuff. There is a micro short film that deals with an alien abduction. In fact, the title of the film is Alien Abduction.

Doctor A is a mental health professional. He is sitting in his office listening to Zoe, a patient. The doctor asks Zoe a series of questions about her supposed abduction. He has a list that he's checking off items on as Zoe responds to the questions. That is, things like have there been any more visits from the aliens.

The plot of the film is straightforward. In fact, Doctor A kind of looks bored during the entire session. But the very end of the film has a “gotcha” moment that you won't see coming.

Lauren Parkinson played Zoe. I first came across Lauren as Snow White in Avengers Grimm. She has also starred in the horror films Sweet Dreams and Murderbot.

Rich Gordon played Dr. A He has been a film publicist and producer along with appearing in films such as the horror short Haddonfield.

The film was directed by Brad Ashten. As an actor, he has appeared in shows such as Code Black and SEAL Team and had recurring roles in Animal Kingdom and Outer Banks. He was also the writer and producer of several short films.

Alien Abduction was interesting. At first it seemed to be basically a drama with sci-fi elements. Or supposed sci-fi, if you are not a believer of the alien abduction phenomenon. But that gotcha moment I mentioned makes the film far better than I had imagined the story ending.

The film won the Award of Merit at the 2023 Global Shorts film festival.

Alien Abduction can be watched for free on YouTube. The link for the film is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmK3m_nd16o
