Bruce Von Stiers
There is a new powerhouse in Christian music. You might have heard her before as part of the gospel group The Clark Sisters. Her name is Dorinda Clark-Cole. She has just released a self titled solo album. It is sure to be one of the top selling Christian albums of 2002. The album was released by Gospo Centric Records.
There are twelve songs on this album plus a bonus track and another hidden one. The album was produced by Asaph Alexander Ward and PAJAM.
If It Had Not Been For The Lord is the first song on the album. It is a good beat song about praising God for the good life that the singer has had. When life had gotten her down, God was there to make sure she made it through okay.
No Not One is the second track on the album. It is done in the vein of a traditional gospel song. It praises the fact that Jesus is there all of the time for us. I’m Coming Out is a song that will have you dancing in the pews. It is a fast paced song that says that the singer will “kick up my heels” praising God. There is a reprise for the song on the album.
You can’t Take My Joy is another gospel type of slow song. It has a choir type of chorus to it. Show Me The Way is a song asking for God’s guidance to be “more like you.”
You Can’t Hurry God is a fast paced chorus gospel song that reminds us that God does things in his time, not ours. It’s Not Me is about telling you that God works through all of us.
I’m Still Here is a smoky song about the trials in a person’s life and God pulled them through the tough times. Nobody Like Jesus is another song that is a fast paced gospel tune. You Don’t Have To Leave Here is asking the listener to leave their burdens behind at the alter.
You Can is the bonus track for the album. It is a dance type of song that lets us know that with God’s help we can make it. The hidden track jams too with a message that has a strong backbeat.
Dorinda Clark-Cole is a great singer. This debut
album is an example of how God really works through disciples to bring his message
to all of his children. Dorinda’s voice is strong, the music is done well
and the message is one of spiritual growth and understanding.
