A Sixty Second Heist

Bruce Von Stiers

I am a fan of heist films. Some of my favorite heist films include Now You See Me, Inside Man and both the original and remakes of Ocean's Eleven.

I just watched a short film titled :60 Seconds. It is a film with elements of some of those top tiered heist films I just mentioned.

Dixon is the head of a robbery gang. He and the members of his gang are about to rob a casino. But to do this, he needs an inside person. That person is Chessa, one of the cage cashiers for the casino. Dixon has been romancing Chessa and she's now in on the heist.

The 60 seconds the film's title refers to is the amount of time it will take to do the heist. That is, as Dixon says, “In and out in 60 seconds.”

Along with Dixon, there is Benny, who seems to be a little more than a bit trigger happy. Then there is Caleb, who is the gang's IT hacker person.

The film shows how plans are laid out in amongst shots of the actual heist being carried out. An added element is the casino manager, who just might inadvertently foil the heist.

Christopher Wiehl is Dixon. He's guest starred on shows such as Code Black, Chicago Justice and NCIS. He also had a recurring role on Going Home. Laith Wallschleger is Benny. He has over fifty screen credits, including portraying New England Patriots player Ron Gronkowski on American Sports Story.

Majeed Nami is Caleb. He had a recurring role on the web series Open Houses and appeared in the horror film The Haunting of Grady Farm. Rob Nagle is Sydney, the casino manager. He has a ton of screen credits, including a recurring role on Good Trouble.

Emilie Elizabeth Martz is Chessa. She starred in the comedy web series Martinski & Smartz and co-starred in Birthmother's Betrayal.

Other actors in the film were Darren Capozzi, Mike Pyle, Elsa Cipolletta, Drew Mote, Bruce Mathews, Mike Ball, John Cowan, Steve Holm, Aaron Chamberlain, Lisa Mathews and Debbie Lomeli.

The film was directed by John “Quig” Quigley. His company, Chrome Bumper Films, is responsible for a ton of short documentaries and music productions. He also co-wrote the screenplay for this film. The other screenwriter for the film was Mark Sanderson, who also co-wrote the screenplays for Suburban Swingers Club and Stalked By My Ex. The cinematographer was Brent Bye, who has worked on several of Quigley's previous productions.

The film had some excellent songs in it to complement various scenes. Those songs included Beyond The Sea from Bobby Darin, Where Is My Mind from the Pixies, The Promise from Mint Julep, Tick of the Clock from the Chromatics, Stroker Ace, Hipster Trends and Suspicious Minds from Elvis Presley.

:60 Seconds is a terrific heist film, if only a short one. It has a delicious twist at the end that you might, or might not, see coming. The acting and the cinematography were done well. As I mentioned earlier, I like great heist films. This film has made it onto my favorite heist film list.

:60 Seconds is an Official Selection for the upcoming 2024 Santa Clarita International Film Festival.
